POWER SHIFT TV had the chance to sit down with the beautifully gifted Malaysian singer-songwriter, YUNA at Bonnaroo 2012. YUNA was nominated as one of MTV Iggy's Best New Bands in the World. Her U.S. debut self-titled album debuted  at #23 on the Pop chart and #86 on the Top 100 Albums on iTunes. YUNA was also #23 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart.

Over the weekend, musicians and activists joined together at Bonnaroo to launch Power Vote, a national campaign to turn out young voters across the country to demand candidates stand up for clean energy and stop taking money from the fossil fuel industry.

Power Vote is more critical than ever this year because big polluters are not only poisoning our communities and our climate, they’re poisoning our democracy with millions of dollars of dirty money. This has to end. There’s only one way to create the clean and just energy future we need, and that’s for our generation to stand up and demand a power shift.

Bands and artists who supported the Power Vote campaign launch by filming videos and spreading the word on social media included: Big Freedia, YUNA, Rubblebucket, Santigold, Childish Gambino, Moon Taxi, Dead Confederate, Soul Rebel, The Blind Woods, and The Futurebirds.

This week we're incredibly excited to host young people from the frontlines of the fight for environmental and climate justice in Washington, DC for trainings, meetings and action. These incredible leaders are hosting two events, a Bike (or Metro!) Tour of environmental justice sites in Washington, DC and an interactive fishbowl panel Sunday night at Busboys & Poets. On Friday, Mitt Romney once again displayed his utter contempt for young voters. Reacting to the massive demonstration against Bank of America in Charlotte last week, Romney told WBTV that the protestors were simply too young to understand the economy or how banks work:

Asked what message he had for the protestors, Romney said, “Unfortunately, a lot of young folks haven’t had the opportunity to really understand how the economy works, and what it takes to put people to work in real jobs, and why we have banks, and what banks do. I understand — it’s a very understandable sentiment if you don’t find a job, and you can’t see rising incomes. You’re going to be angry and looking at someone to blame.

As one of the nearly 1,000 people (young and old) participated in the protests, I have a message for Mitt Romney: Dismiss us if you want, but young voters are not going away. We took to the streets in Charlotte because we know exactly what banks do, and we will not stand by while Bank of America is destroying our environment and our economy.
