Youth Climate Coalition Outraged that Keystone XL SEIS Does Not Consider Climate Impacts

Statement from Maura Cowley, Executive Director of Energy Action Coalition on the release of the State Department’s Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) on Keystone XL:

“President Obama and Secretary Kerry’s recent report on Keystone XL is such a joke that we would call it laughable if it didn’t have such severe consequences. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and unprecedented weather disasters, President Obama committed his second term to strong action on climate, but this report from President Obama’s State Department tragically continues to ignore the climate impacts of Keystone XL pipeline.

“The college students we work with could produce a stronger report on how tar sands expansion means game over for the climate, and President Obama and Secretary Kerry threaten to tarnish their legacy with the next generation of voters if they continue to ignore the profound climate impacts of tar sands expansion. Young voters will continue to demand that President Obama lead on climate change and reject Keystone XL.”
